#tbt to my evening eating truly exceptional escargot from @vandyv at the newly opened @maisonbistrochs. I’ve loved this since my college days visiting the now closed Flying Frog Cafe in Asheville, and also wrote about 🐌 for the @postandcourier a couple of years ago, trying to highlight what I hoped was a returning trend 🤞. @vandyv ‘s iteration aren’t reliving my youth or hoping to shine light on a trend but a grown up, straight up damn delicious dish executed expertly with a generous amount of fresh garlic and crusty baguette slices. This time last week I was eating an EPIC flower salad at @heirloomrestnc, no greens involved. It was sweet with wisteria blossoms, savory with all sorts of magic from @clarkbarlowe, and really made me happy. I’ve always eaten (and loved 🌺 ie: #chowardsviolet , many amari, and @backinthedaybakery lavender sugar cookies 😍) but this savory prep still has me 🤯. No filter — these are the colors of my spring kitchen. Before I left for Charlotte last weekend, threw some leftover sweet potatoes and a few beets in the freezer to deal with later. Those became a spring coconut 🥥 soup. The green is radish top pesto (just sub tops for basil in your favorite recipe). And of course they’re in recycled containers because, while they aren’t margarine tubs, my granny taught me well! 🤓I cannot adequately express how satisfying doing stuff like this is.
