My Sunday lunch was a little unconventional today 🤓. This is the massive house made @mainstreetmeats pork skin, still cracking a bit when it came to me, surrounded by all sorts of olives, pickles, cheese, and some amazing quail mortadella. Yep, I crushed it. 🐷 #letsdigin
It’s a myth, you don’t have to only eat oysters in months ending in “r” (it just takes knowing that you eat oysters from colder waters ... ). And it’s a myth that you can’t eat seafood in the mountains, at least in Chattanooga. I have been a fan of @cheferikniel and his @easybistro for YEARS, and tonight’s oysters with squash miso, cornbread crumbles, and hot sauce reminded me how good and creative our Southern culinary landscape can be. I ate lots of things tonight at #chattanooga mainstay @st.johnsrestaurant , but what really wowed me was, after a summer full of tomatoes and eating them every chance I got, @chefrebeccabarron created a dish that recreated how I felt tasting the first tomato 🍅 of the season, that first rush of flavor. This book edited by @sarabfranklin (I can’t wait to read her book on Judith Jones coming soon!!!) and including so many of my favorite food writers (@francis_lam @joeyonan @johntedge @tonitiptonmartin et al!) is like a buffet of beauty I keep dipping into this summer, teaching me the significance and the rhythms of the work of #ednalewis.
