It’s been such a long slog for restaurants this past year. But there are so many folks who are keeping on keeping on and John Zucker is one of them. For more than two decades, the Cru Catering and Café executive chef and owner has been creating a recipe for success in Charleston, SC. His catering division has been voted Best Caterer consecutively since 2001 and his restaurant, Cru Café, which opened in 2002, makes consistently delicious upscale comfort food, including one seriously dreamy mac and cheese. Although he was the number one graduate in his class from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, his attitude is anything but “fancy chef.” Donned in his signature baseball cap and at home behind the scenes making sure plates look good and people are happy, he’s the kind of guy you want to cater your big event, and beyond that, one of the people that make this city I love better.
